The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) hosted its inaugural APAC Meeting at the Island Shangri-la, Hong Kong, on 11 April. More than 240 in-house counsel delegates attended from locations across the Asia-Pacific region including Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, India and the Philippines.

The event began with keynote addresses on Navigating the New Geo-political and Economic Reality (Dane Chamorro, senior partner at Control Risks) and on Programming, Robots and Ethics (Winnie Yeung, the chief legal director at Microsoft). The day’s programme consisted of sessions that revolved around three streams of significant APAC-relevant topics, namely: Substantive Law; Management and Professional Skills; and Innovation and Technology.

“This event was designed to be the flagship in-house event in the APAC region and, having attended the entire event, I am delighted to confirm that the quality of speakers and panelists, the breadth and quality of programming, and the professionalism of organisation was best-in-class for the region,” said Tanya Khan, managing director of ACC Asia-Pacific.

“Having seen the success of this event, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our delegates and sponsors, I am pleased to confirm that this will be an annual event. The next iteration will be hosted in Singapore in the Spring of 2020, and if I know anything about Singapore, our members there will want to make this event even more compelling. I can’t wait!”

Lin Shi, president of ACC Hong Kong, added: “We are thrilled that the event was so well attended, both from a Hong Kong and regional point of view. Our Hong Kong membership was enthused to host this conference, as ACC annual meeting programming content is different in kind and quality to that available from the established conference circuit.”
