Hitesh Jain, an equity partner at ALMT Legal’s Mumbai office, defected to mid-sized firm Juris Corp along with two salaried partners and 27 lawyers on 1 April.

Juris Corp, which is headed by H Jayesh, is now looking to take on additional premises at Express Towers in Nariman Point, Mumbai, to accommodate the new team. In the meantime, in an unusual arrangement, the team is still based at ALMT’s office while working for Juris Corp.

Jain is a litigation partner and had been with ALMT since 2006. He told Asia Business Law Journal that this was “the first leg of our expansion”, where his team and Juris Corp are looking to set up a full-service firm that would attract other lawyers.

“We are basically setting up a platform for many more people to join,” said Jain, who declined to comment on the sharing of equity between Juris Corp and his team.

The two partners accompanying Jain are Subhash Jadhav and Pooja Tidke.

Aliff Fezelbhoy, a senior partner at ALMT, said he wished the departing lawyers well, adding that “ALMT has always been, and will remain, a brand that lives up to its values”.

Juris Corp, which had 45 lawyers, will now have 77 as the expanded entity has since taken on two new lawyers.
