The head of AZB & Partners’ compliance and investigation practice, Ajay Upadhyay has moved back to KPMG to work as a partner in forensics services practice after working for AZB for two and a half years. “I am very thankful to AZB & Partners, especially [managing partner] Zia Mody, for the wonderful opportunity with the firm that helped me gather immense learning,” Upadhyay told India Business Law Journal.
“My decision to move was driven by my personal career aspirations of growth and being associated with a larger and core forensic practice. This required a bigger canvas of a firm like KPMG, which is also the pioneer of forensic investigations in India.”
Upadhyay said his objective at AZB was to set up the compliance and investigation practice, which was focused on white collar crime defence. His role at KPMG will be similar, which is that of a financial crime investigator and forensic expert. Upadhyay will continue to work with law firms and general counsel (GCs) and assist them in internal investigations, regulatory investigations, compliance matters and dispute and litigation support.
“The unique experience which I have gathered after working for both an accounting firm and a law firm would help us in better understanding the requirements of GCs and provide them more relevant and structured solutions keeping in mind the sensitivities of such matters.”Upadhyay is a trained chartered accountant and had previously worked with KPMG from 2005-10.
