Baker McKenzie appointed Jon Cowley and David Lang as partners to strengthen the firm’s international commercial and trade practice, and energy practice, respectively.
Cowley joined the firm’s international commercial and trade practice group in Asia-Pacific as a partner and will be relocated from the US to Hong Kong. He joined from Nike, where he served as an assistant general counsel for customs and international trade, based in their head office in Oregon.
He advised the global business on import and export laws and regulations in the areas of sanctions, customs, free trade agreements, export controls and anti-boycott. He also oversaw customs audits, investigations and litigation globally, and focused on improving supply chain efficiency and managing compliance risk. In this role, he worked extensively in the Asia-Pacific region.
Cowley also previously worked in Baker McKenzie’s Hong Kong office as an associate. He advised technology, apparel and consumer product companies on regional customs and international trade matters.
Lang joined Baker McKenzie from Vinson & Elkins as a partner, and will serve as global head of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). He focuses on energy infrastructure development, acquisition and disposition. In the LNG sector, he advised domestic and international clients across the value chain on matters related to gas supply, liquefaction, marketing and shipping, regasification and gas sales for projects throughout the world.
