Bar coding for export packaging enters phase two

The enforcement of bar coding requirements for secondary-level packaging of pharmaceutical products exported from India began on 1 January 2013, as mandated by the Director General of Foreign Trade in a notification dated 10 January 2011.

All manufacturers and exporters that export pharmaceutical products are now required to develop the capability to track and trace their exports. The track and trace system is being implemented in three phases.
