Cairn has appointed Nitin Banerjee as general counsel. Banerjee will be a member of Cairn’s business executive committee and will help drive the company’s vision to contribute to 50% of the country’s crude oil and gas production.
He will also be an integral member of the group legal council and play a key role in driving the overall legal vision and charter for the legal function across the group.

An international corporate commercial lawyer, Banerjee is qualified both in India and the UK. He has expertise in energy and infrastructure projects, M&A, litigation and arbitration management, governance, joint venture management, compliance, regulatory & policy advocacy and corporate commercial matters.
He joins Cairn from Vodafone India, where he was the senior vice president for legal transactions and headed the legal operations for Vodafone’s enterprise business, technology, IT and networks, strategy and wholesale mobility businesses.
Cairn is the oil and gas arm of Vedanta and operates 27% of the country’s domestic crude oil production.
