Introduction

Huang Wei, partner of Tian Yuan Law Firm and head of the firm’s antitrust department, also takes the roles of deputy director at the Foreign Affair Committee of the All China Lawyers Association, arbitrator at China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission, and expert lawyer for task forces of compliance and advocacy, merger control regime, and court proceedings in antitrust damage claims at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Commission on Competition. Huang also serves as postgraduate tutor at the Law School of The China University of Political Science and Law and Xiamen University Law school.

Huang has long been dedicated to the research and practice of competition law. He has extensive practicing experience in antitrust and competition, including antitrust investigation, antitrust litigation, antitrust compliance and merger filing.

Huang has represented a number of “first” antitrust cases with significant influence at home and abroad, including the first antitrust case involving foreign companies in China (the LCD case), the first vertical monopoly agreement case in China (Liquor case), the first antitrust investigation into the abuse of IPR in China (IDC case) and the first antitrust litigation heard by the Supreme People’s Court (3Q war case), etc.

In recent years, Huang has represented clients in the most high-profile antitrust litigations – JD.com v. Tmall (“chose one from two” case), civil damages litigation against Tetra Pak, and the first case concerning judicial review of administrative sanction on RPM issues (Hainan Yutai case). In the field of antitrust investigation, Huang represented the clients in the DRAM case and the case about the exclusive copyright licence of music labels. In addition, Huang has represented dozens of clients in the field of merger filing, including food, semiconductors, chemicals, communications, travel and other industries. Huang’s team also provides “the most down-to-earth service” to nearly 100 leading companies in industries including pharmaceutical, medical device, internet, semiconductors, communication equipment, etc.

Huang has also been ranked as a leading lawyer in China’s antitrust field by internationally renowned law rating agencies such as Chambers and Partners, and Legalband for many years.
