Introduction

Mary Zhu is a senior partner of TianTong Law Firm, head of arbitration and foreign-related dispute resolution team. She obtained a Master of Laws from Renmin University of China. She is also an arbitrator of several arbitration institutions. She has 17 years of experience in managing legal risks in corporations and handling domestic and foreign-related commercial litigation and arbitration matters.

Zhu specializes in high-value and complex commercial litigation and arbitration cases. Her clients include many state-owned enterprises and financial institutions. She represents them as the attorney of numerous arbitration and litigation cases in the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Beijing Arbitration Commission, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, the Supreme People’s Court, people’s courts at various levels, and those cases with her professional help have gained satisfactory results.

Before joining TianTong, Zhu served as the deputy general counsel of Sinochem Group where she gained extensive knowledge about both business and legal works in various sectors including energy, the chemical industry, real estate, finance and agriculture. Zhu has more than 10 years’ practicing experience, focusing on company equity, M&A, listing and bonds issuing, international trades and state-owned property rights transactions. When she was in charge of dispute resolution management at Sinochem Group, Zhu handled numerous arbitration cases in major international arbitration institutions and litigations in various jurisdictions including Hong Kong, England and Wales, the United States, Singapore and Syria. This experience enabled Zhu to quickly and accurately understand and respond to the needs of her client. Zhu is also able to design the most suitable dispute resolution plan for her clients from the perspectives of both an outside lawyer and an in-house counsel, which has ensured trusts of her clients.

In addition, Zhu is dedicated to the promotion of arbitration. She is the general editor of the Arbitration Circle section of TianTong’s WeChat platform TianTong Dispute Resolution Circle, where she has edited and published over 40 articles focusing on leading issues in arbitration practice, including the widely acclaimed series 2018 Observation Report of Arbitration-Related Judicial Review in China.
