Introduction

Dr Guan Jian is partner at Beijing Globe-Law, as well as a listed lawyer for China’s Ministry of Commerce and a member of “National One-Thousand Lawyer Talents Handling Foreign-related Matters” designated by China Ministry of Justice. Dr Guan graduated from Renmin University of China and Bern University of Switzerland, and received a doctorate degree in law from Wuhan University.

Dr Guan focuses on WTO and international trade, as well as foreign investments and mergers and acquisitions. He has participated in more than 100 trade-remedy investigations initiated by the US, the EU, Canada, Australia and India, among other countries, and numerous major foreign investments and M&A projects for multinational corporations in the US and the EU. Dr Guan works closely with his clients in industries like iron and steel, chemicals, photovoltaics, electro-communications, electronics, footwear, textile, food and medicine. Besides, Dr Guan represents the government of China in disputes under the WTO Dispute Settlement Body and for trade-remedy investigations that other WTO members initiate.

Dr Guan regularly undertakes China Law Society-sponsored research projects. The project “Research on the Matter of the Expiration of Paragraph 15(a)(ii) of China’s Accession Protocol” was honoured with the Excellent Project of 2016 award. In addition, Dr Guan has published several research papers on some known Chinese and foreign journals regarding WTO and international trade matters. Due to rich experiences and in-depth theoretical research results, Dr Guan receives frequent invitations from the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and local departments of commerce to give lectures on key issues of trade remedies.
