Clubbing ruled out for transactions in stamp duty case


Allowing an appeal in Chief Controlling Revenue Authority v Coastal Gujarat Power Limited and Ors, the Supreme Court held that a single mortgage executed in favour of a security trustee for the benefit of several syndicated lenders would be treated as a single instrument relating to several distinct transactions and stamp duty would be payable accordingly.
