On Saturday 25 July, two people were brutally murdered at the Bangalore office of FoxMandal Little. The bodies of 25-year-old peon (office assistant) Shubankar Das and 30-year-old security guard Dasharath were discovered by another security guard when he arrived to open the office on 27 July.
The bodies of the victims were found with multiple stab wounds and initial inquiries suggested that theft may have been the motive for the attack. Police have arrested two men in connection with the murders: Meraz Hussain, 22, and Syed Jalal Taukeet, 18. Hussain had previously worked at the firm for six months as a security guard. The police are searching for a third person allegedly involved in the incident.
It is believed Dasharath and Das allowed the assailants to enter the office. “They perhaps knew those who attacked them. The manner in which they were stabbed several times indicates enmity,” a police officer told the Deccan Herald, adding that “there was no evidence of a break-in”. The bodies bore multiple stab wounds in the abdomen, chest and neck.
Deputy commissioner of police M Chandra Sekhar told The Hindu there were several clues at the scene that indicated the involvement of a person who was known to the victims.
FoxMandal Little is one of India’s largest law firms. Its Bangalore office is spread across four buildings adjoining each other on Primrose Road. The murders took place in the building that houses the firm’s reception, corporate and labour law divisions. Das lived in this building while Dasharath was the security guard for all four buildings in the complex.
