Eversheds Sutherland recently appointed Cedric Lam as a partner on the corporate team in Hong Kong’s office and head of intellectual property in the Greater China region.
Lam is an intellectual property specialist, advising multinational corporations in acquiring and maintaining IP rights and implementing IP protection and licensing strategies, as well as counselling private equity and venture capital firms on IP investments in Greater China.
“We are seeing growing interest from PE and VC firms, wanting to invest in companies with technological and other innovations in the [Greater China] region,” said Lam. He also sees the escalating trade tension between the US and China contributing to the growing demand for IP services in Asia.
Eversheds also recruited John Siu as a partner on the financial services disputes and investigations team in Hong Kong.
Having previously worked at Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission as in-house counsel, Siu focuses on highly technical areas, including insider trading, fraud and price rigging.
“Major challenges for clients in 2018 are focused on the growth and speed of financial markets, where technology allows transactions to occur in split seconds, new rules for manager responsibility and the importance of compliance as a priority for financial services organizations, at board level and on a global scale,” said Siu. “My move to Eversheds Sutherland will support our clients through this ever-changing legal and regulatory landscape.”
