Dear Editor,
I read your article last month on “Make in India” with great interest. I think it’s wonderful that India is taking this initiative to boost foreign investment in manufacturing, but if it wants to succeed in this endeavour, the government needs to do more than commission a series of glossy advertisements. It needs to take concrete steps on the ground to ease the troubled path that foreign investors must tread.
To give a trivial but poignant example, today I found myself applying for a business visa to visit India, a needlessly complicated ordeal that I am forced to undergo at least once a year. And each year as I repeat the process I am dismayed to find that the number of time-consuming requirements has multiplied.
