The Securities and Exchange Board of India on 7 July issued guidelines which prohibit foreign portfolio investors from issuing offshore derivative instruments (ODIs) with derivatives as underlying assets, with the exception of derivative positions that are taken by the ODI-issuing FPI for hedging the equity shares held by it on a one-to-one basis.
