The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) announced the appointment of Sarah Grimmer as its secretary general with effect from September.
Grimmer has more than 14 years of experience in the field of international arbitration, spanning inter-state, investor-state and international commercial arbitration. She had worked at two major arbitral institutions.
“Sarah is the ideal fit to lead HKIAC to the next stage of its growth. With her extensive experience in international arbitration, we are confident that HKIAC will continue to improve and bring the highest level of dispute resolution services to our users,” said Teresa Cheng, chairman of the HKIAC.
The HKIAC’s current secretary-general, Chiann Bao, will join Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom as regional counsel in the international law firm’s Hong Kong office at the start of September.
In her new position, Bao will continue to focus on international arbitration as her practice. “Chiann is a hugely respected figure in Asian arbitration circles,” said Rory McAlpine, head of Skadden’s Asia-Pacific litigation and international arbitration group. “She will have a significant role in the continued expansion of our practice in Hong Kong and beyond.”
