India Business Law Journal hears the voices of three women corporate counsel. By Rebecca Abraham

Making a mark in a new job is a challenge for most people. Anahita Kumar took on the twin challenges of a new job and working for a newly formed entity when she took on the role of director of legal and corporate affairs at Nutricia International in August 2012.

Nutricia was set up in July 2012 after French food giant Danone completed its €250 million (US$345 million) acquisition of Wockhardt’s nutrition business. The company is based in India and is a fully owned subsidiary of Danone.

Kumar, who is a qualified lawyer and a chartered accountant, heads a three-lawyer in-house team that does “about 80% to 85%” of the legal work of the company. She reports that she also takes care of the company’s public, corporate and secretarial affairs as well as “a bit of compliance”.
