Gopika Pant has more than 33 years of legal experience. She has a BA (Hons) degree from St Stephens College (1982), LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University (1985), and was admitted to the Bar Council of Delhi (1985) and the New York State Bar Association (1987) after an LLM from Columbia University (1986). Pant is a member of the ABA and Supreme Court Bar Association. She worked in New York from 1986 to 1990. She was a partner in a leading law firm in India prior to setting up Indian Law Partners in 1999. On 1 April 2011, Indian Law Partners entered into a best friend relationship with global law firm Ashurst.
Pant has significant experience in Indian corporate and commercial laws, and is a specialist in cross-border commercial transactions, including restructurings, acquisitions, JVs, business alliances, foreign portfolio investments, private equity investments and exits, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance, infrastructure and project finance, and real estate property transactions.
Pant advised Times Bank in its merger with HDFC in what was India’s first private banking merger; and Japan Bank for International Cooperation in various transactions, including its investments in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Takshasila Hospitals and TechnoTrends Auto Park. Other clients include Kuwait Petroleum, BUPA, BlueScope Steel, Toshiba, Mitsui, Nippon Paper, Dow Jones, Bosch, KIA Motors, Merlin Entertainments, Hyundai, Savills, Blueair, Fujitsu General, M&G Investments, GE, Arab Bank, Soktas Turkey and Avaada Energy.
Pant is on the board of various companies such as GKN Driveline (India) and Asset Reconstruction Company (India).
Pant is a keen environmentalist and has a diploma in environmental law from the World Wide Fund for Nature. She is an enthusiastic public speaker and has addressed conferences in India, London, Singapore, Japan and the US. She has also written articles and chapters in various Indian and international journals, books and newspapers.
Pant is also a keen sportswoman. She was ranked number one in both badminton and squash in Delhi and has played several national level championships in India.
