Suhaan Mukerji is founding partner of PLR Chambers, a law firm specializing in public policy and regulatory affairs, which was awarded India Business Law Journal’s best policy and regulatory law firm award for 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and Legal Era Awards for 2017, 2016, 2015, Social Impact Firm of the Year Thomson Reuters Foundation Awards 2018. He has extensive experience in crisis management, policy formulation, drafting and monitoring of legislative agendas. He consistently advises clients on corporate affairs and public policy strategy in India, primarily in defence, nuclear power, information and communications technology, privacy and data protection, anti-corruption and white collar crime, public procurement, food and pharmaceuticals law, not-for-profit laws, education, internet and e-commerce, international trade and investment disputes.
He represents and assists clients before the Supreme Court of India, CBI courts, various ministries and departments of the federal government including the DIPP, Department of Economic Affairs, transportation-related ministries, commerce and industries, IT and telecom ministries, various state governments including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra, regulators including the RBI, SEBI, DGCA, SFIO, FSSAI, TRAI and various law enforcement agencies.
He advises federal and state governments on policy and legislative reform, serving on government and industry committees and appearing as an expert witness before parliamentary standing committees. Recent legislative drafting assignments include, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways – Road Transport and Safety Bill; Department of Heavy Industries – the CEMM Bill; Inland Waterways Authority PPP – framework. Committees include Ministry of Corporate Affairs working group of the Competition Law Review Committee, the Government of India’s Cloud Computing Committees headed by Kris Gopalakrishnan, the Joint Working on Cyber Security headed by the Deputy NSA, the Joint Working Group on Telecom Security, the Ministry of Finance’s Alok Nigam Committees.
He has a bachelor’s degree from National Law School, Bangalore, and an LLM from the London School of Economics. He is a passionate supporter of development initiatives and is on the board of a number of leading global not-for-profit organizations.
