The Indian Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA), together with Covington and Chandhiok & Mahajan, organized a successful roundtable discussion on 12 October at The Leela, Gurgaon, entitled “The Control of Big Data – Issues, Challenges and Competition Law Issues”.
The 90-minute interactive session was attended by about 15 general counsel and senior in-house counsel from companies including Boeing, Usha International, Lanco, Sabic, ATC, Apollo Tyres, Ford and Siemens to name a few.
The keynote speaker was Sudhir Mital, the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India.
The discussion addressed the manner in which data is collected, processed and exploited, which has become particularly topical with the emergence of a data-driven economy. Digital markets have raised several public policy concerns including the role of competition law to regulate such markets.
Other speakers included: Sophie Bertin, a senior adviser, and Peter Camesasca, a partner at Covington; Karan Singh Chandhiok and Kalyani Singh, both partners at Chandhiok & Mahajan.
