Kannan Rahul, a banking and finance lawyer, is moving to Trilegal as a member of its all-equity partnership from J Sagar Associates (JSA), where he was a salaried partner.
This will be Trilegal’s second lateral gain in recent months. Nisha Kaur Uberoi, a competition law specialist, moved to Trilegal from AZB & Partners with a team of five lawyers on 5 June. Rahul, who is joining Trilegal’s Mumbai office, was a key member of JSA’s banking and finance team. Among his credentials, he advised on a US$995 million deal in 2016 in which Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management acquired three power projects and six road projects of Gammon Infrastructure.
Rahul had joined JSA in January 2015 from ICICI Bank, where he was the group head of the bank’s southeast Asia and north Asia corporate legal team and worked from Mumbai, Singapore and Hong Kong. At ICICI Bank, he advised on financing, debt capital market, private banking and inter-bank transactions.
Trilegal, which prides itself on its “unique equity lock step model”, says it is “the only firm in the country that pools profits across offices and holds its entire profits for distribution with the larger partnership”. Trilegal has 38 partners and around 220 lawyers across its six offices.
