JSW wins Fujairah port project

JSW Infrastructure has executed a port user agreement with the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates to develop, operate and maintain berth Nos. 5 and 6 of the port.

JSW currently operates ports and terminals in Maharashtra and Goa which have an operational capacity of 33 million tonnes per annum (MPTA), which it plans to increase to 200 MTPA through greenfield and brownfield expansions over the next four years.

The Fujairah Port investment will allow JSW to expand its offshore operations. HSA Advocates, which acted for JSW on the agreement, said the project was awarded to JSW to enable the most efficient use of the port.

Fujairah Port is the only multi-purpose port on the eastern seaboard of the UAE, approximately 70 nautical miles from the Straits of Hormuz. It has been fully operational since 1983 and serves as a hub for the UAE’s trade with India and East Africa.

The HSA team was led by partner Anjan Dasgupta and associate partner Deepak Kumar Thakur.

Fujairah Port was represented by its in-house legal team.
