Vashi and Vashi was founded in 2017, when Vivek Vashi set up his independent practice in Mumbai along with his then entire team of 17 associates.
The Mumbai-based firm practices dispute resolution across India, including litigation before all tribunals, magistrates and courts (including the Supreme Court), domestic and international arbitration (including LCIA, SIAC, and ICC arbitrations). While commercial dispute resolution is its mainstay, the firm’s practice also extends across corporate disputes (including insolvency), construction disputes, family disputes, economic offences, iron and steel, white-collar crimes, renewable energy, telecom to infrastructure. The firm works with both individual and corporate clients.
The practice is not limited to resolving disputes. An integral part of the practice is preventative advice which helps clients preserve value. A number of potentially high value disputes, mainly in relation to in-bound investments, are resolved by early identification and resolution of issues. Additionally, the practice also extends to transactional services, high-stakes negotiations, and intellectual property.
Although based in Mumbai, the team has established strong relationships with counsel across various jurisdictions in India, including Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Goa, Gurugram, and Kolkata. When called upon by clients in other jurisdictions, the firm works with the most appropriate affiliate firms for local filing purposes, executing strategy, and conducting the hearings of the dispute. Our team has also acted as co-counsel in international arbitrations and litigations outside India.
The firm encourages advocacy and subject to client preference the firm’s lawyers are encouraged to argue before courts, tribunals, and regulators. This helps our clients contain the high costs associated with litigation, as well as allows the team to remain intimately involved in the dispute and hone their skills, culminating in dual benefits to the client.
Vivek has been ranked in India Business Law Journal’s ‘A-List’ Top 100 Indian lawyers for several years consecutively and has also been commended by AsiaLaw, Legal 500, Global, Who’s Who Legal for his litigation skills on numerous occasions. The firm has been awarded by India Business Law Journal as the ‘Best New Law Firm’ in 2018-19 and a ‘Rising Star’ for 2017-2018, only a month after it was set up.
