LexCounsel has opened an office in Bhubaneswar to capitalize on the opportunities in the resource-rich state of Odisha. “There are many national and multinational companies in Odisha,” said founding partner Seema Jhingan, noting that these companies operate in the tourism, healthcare, food processing, petrochemicals, electronics and textiles sectors.

Jhingan said the concept of a full-service law firm was relatively new in the state, which was instead dominated by individual practitioners with fixed specializations. “Owing to this, large companies operating from Odisha are constrained to look at law firms operating out of tier-1 cities to provide them comprehensive legal solutions.”

As the Odisha bench of the National Company Law Tribunal has been given the jurisdiction for neighbouring Chhattisgarh state, Jhingan sees opportunities coming from outside the state as well. “All matters under legislation like the Companies Act, as well as the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, for these two regions would be dealt with by this bench.”
