McDermott hires London partner to grow India business

Ranajoy Basu

McDermott Will & Emery announced Ranajoy Basu has joined its London office as a partner. Basu has a background in structured finance, securitizations, derivatives, debt capital markets and debt restructurings.

Basu joins McDermott from Reed Smith, where he co-chaired its India group and launched the firm’s social impact finance group. He is dual-qualified in England and India.

“I joined McDermott because of the tremendous opportunity to complement its cross-border transactional practices with the growth of structured finance and impact investment in London and globally,” Basu told India Business Law Journal. “Besides, I am very excited to grow the India business strategy at the firm in collaboration with the firm’s core practice areas across the world.”

Basu’s experience includes covered bond transactions, segregated asset pool programmes, medium term note programmes, renewable energy, project bonds and synthetic securitizations.

“Basu will play an important and leading role in the development of our structured finance practice in London and globally,” said Hamid Yunis, the managing partner of the firm’s London office.
