India, Brazil and South Africa challenged a decision to grant international standard recognition to Microsoft’s Office software package, a standards agency overseeing the case said in June.
The three countries lodged a formal appeal against a decision to ratify the document format behind Microsoft Office 2007 as a global standard. In letters to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), officials expressed disappointment over the ISO’s decision to give its imprimatur to Microsoft’s Office Open XML (OOXML) format following a vote of member nations.
Jonathan Buck, head of communications for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), told the Times of India that the organization had received three appeals.
