Berwin Leighton Paisner has recruited India specialist Azmul Haque as a senior associate in its Singapore office.
Haque moves from the Singaporean law firm WongPartnership, where he was a key member of the India practice group and handled a range of India-related inbound and outbound transactions. He worked in Mumbai with a leading Indian law firm for many years before moving to Singapore in early 2005.
Haque‘s clients have included large Singaporean and multinational companies doing business in India in a number of industries including real estate, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, retail, technology, agribusiness, oil and gas, and airports. He is dual-qualified as an English solicitor and an Indian advocate, and is fluent in Hindi and Bengali.
UK-based Berwin Leighton Paisner recently relocated to new premises in Singapore’s business district, just 18 months after choosing the city as the base for its first Asian office. Working with clinets such as Dubai Investment Group, Inter-Touch, Italcementi, Sasol, Singapore Exchange, Star Cruises, McGraw-Hill and Whittington, the Singapore team has already managed transactions worth approximately US$3 billion, with a particular focus on complex M&A and private equity transactions.
Paul Supramaniam, the firm’s regional head and managing partner in Singapore, said: “Clients have responded well to our offer. They get the quality of Berwin Leighton Paisner’s English law advice and transactional skills, combined with local knowledge and on-the-ground expertise.”
