Real estate partner at HSA

HSA Advocates has hired Amaresh Kumar Singh as a partner at the firm’s New Delhi office. Prior to joining HSA, Singh worked at L&L Partners. He has more than 25 years of experience in real estate, and his practice primarily focuses on the sector, along with civil and commercial litigation.

Singh has advised private equity funds, real estate developers, financial institutions, overseas funds and government funds. He has in-depth knowledge about statutory enactments, and rules and regulations governing each state, and has assisted clients with title verification and due diligence of land and properties around the country.

SAM lawyer goes solo

Abhishek Garg, a lawyer from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM), has founded his own firm, AGS Law, with three lawyers. Garg is a dual-qualified lawyer and chartered accountant with more than five years of experience working with prominent law firms including SAM, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, and Advaita Legal.

The key practice areas for the new firm are taxation, insolvency and bankruptcy, dispute resolution and general corporate laws. Garg regularly appears before the National Company Law Tribunal, the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, as well as the Supreme Court and high courts.

Japan desk lawyer at CAM

Varun Sehgal has joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) as a partner in the corporate practice. Sehgal is based out of New Delhi, and is also a part of the firm’s Japan desk. He joins from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, where he worked for nearly seven years.

Sehgal has more than 13 years of extensive experience in M&A, joint ventures and advisory to multinationals. He frequently advises Japanese companies on their investment in India.

Poovayya adds disputes partner

Poovayya & Co has inducted Pallavi Smriti into its partnership in the firm’s Bengaluru office. Prior to the elevation, Smriti was a principal associate focusing on civil, commercial and corporate litigation.

Smriti previously worked at Platinum Partners in the firm’s Bengaluru office and began her career at the Mumbai office of Wadia Ghandy & Co as an associate. Smriti has regularly appeared in high courts, city civil courts and tribunals, and has briefed senior counsel in Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi. She has also been involved in advising corporate clients on court-driven restructuring options.

HSA hires M&A partner

Sunando Mukherjee has joined HSA as a partner in the firm’s New Delhi office. Mukherjee specializes in corporate M&A and project finance transactions in energy and infrastructure projects.

He joins HSA from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, where he was a partner in the corporate and commercial team. Sunando has more than 14 years of experience advising clients on the entire spectrum of corporate transactions including inbound and outbound M&A, structuring of investments, joint ventures, public-private partnerships, public procurement regulations and long-term government supply contracts.

RHTLaw hires Snr consultant

Singaporean firm RHTLaw Asia has appointed Vijay Rai as a senior consultant in its litigation and dispute resolution team. Rai has more than three decades of legal experience. During this time, he has worked on several arbitrations in India as well as represented Indian clients in arbitrations in Singapore. Rai was a founder of VK Rai & Partners that later rebranded to Arbiters Inc Law Corporation.

He has advised a wide range of clients from blue chip companies, local and foreign government agencies and government-linked companies to high-net-worth individuals.
