Shanghai’s legal landscape changed dramatically with the recently announced merger of Joinway and Boss & Young, two firms whose practices should dovetail nicely as the new shingle on the door will boast one of the biggest teams in the city.

Boss & Young managing partner Xu Guojian, who will carry his title to the merged firm, said he was confident that when the new team comes together it will provide “a good coverage of legal service fields”.

“Boss & Young used to be a law firm that mainly focused on international business and advised international clients and also Chinese clients going abroad,” he told China Business Law Journal. “The former Joinway is a big law firm in Shanghai but focused on the domestic market and it is very strong in real estate, construction, financing of real estate, and domestic litigation.”
