The government of South Korea has successfully issued RMB3 billion (US$460 million) worth of three-year 3% sovereign bonds in China’s interbank market. These are the first panda bonds – renminbi-denominated bonds issued by a non-PRC issuer in China – issued by a foreign sovereign, marking a milestone in the internationalization process of the Chinese currency.
