International law firms Squire Sanders & Dempsey and Hammonds have confirmed that they will merge their operations on 1 January 2011. The transatlantic tie-up, which will be known as Squire Sanders Hammonds, will be among the 15 largest US-based legal practices, with approximately 1,275 lawyers and 37 offices in 17 countries. Squire Sanders chair James Maiwurm will be the global chair and CEO of the new firm, while Hammonds managing partner Peter Crossley will take on the role of managing partner for Europe.
