Trilegal has inducted Ramakant Rai from the corporate practice and Nayantara Nag from the projects practice into its partnership following its partner selection process. This increases the firm’s strength to 41 partners.
Rai is a corporate lawyer with a focus on strategic M&A, corporate commercial work and insolvency. He represented Trilegal to work with French car company Peugeot in its acquisition of Ambassador from Hindustan Motors and assisted Peugeot on joint ventures with two CK Birla Group companies to manufacture cars and power trains in the country.
“Ramakant is an outstanding lawyer and a solid addition to our corporate team. He will bolster our presence in the National Capital Region,” said Yogesh Singh, a partner in the firm’s corporate practice.
Nag’s practice areas are water and waste management, roads, renewable energy (wind and solar), smart cities, oil and gas, and affordable housing. She represented the firm to work with the World Bank to set up an institutional framework to develop sewage treatment plants on a PPP basis with central government and state government participation. She also worked with Alstom on the first PPP project in the railways sector under the Make in India initiative to manufacture and supply electric locomotives for Indian Railways.
“She started her career with the firm and has developed into an excellent lawyer,” said Akshay Jaitly, partner and head of the firm’s projects practice. “Nayantara will be a welcome addition to the projects practice where her special focus on public infrastructure projects will add significantly to our overall client service offering.”
The firm elevated Ashish Bhan and Jafar Alam to partners earlier this year. Nisha Kaur Uberoi joined as national head of competition law from AZB & Partners, while Kannan Rahul, who joined from J Sagar Associates, was appointed as a partner in the banking practice.
The firm holds its partner selection process in February and October.
