Kang Jun recently joined King & Wood Mallesons’ (KWM) in its New York office as a partner, strengthening the firm’s capability in US tax. Kang brings US and international tax expertise across a numerous areas, ranging from cross-border investments, capital markets to private investment funds. Prior to joining KWM, Kang was at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, a US law firm, where he worked with such clients as Chinese state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, private-equity firms, asset managers, and listed companies. He also practised law in China, including serving as internal legal counsel at China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
“The appointment of Jun signifies our commitment to the US, reflects the growth opportunities we see in this market and furthers the firm’s globalization efforts,” said Jack Wang, the managing partner of KWM US.
In Europe, KWM’s Frankfurt partner Rüdiger Knopf was appointed as the partner-in-charge for Germany for a term of three years. Knopf specializes in tax structuring, M&A structuring and buyout transactions. He founded the German KWM practice with three other partners in 2017, before the team expanded with five new partners within one year.
“We will continue to strengthen the German practice and exploit our opportunities both in the local market and internationally as a global top-tier law firm, focusing on private equity, M&A transactions, as well as on finance,” said Knopf.
