为了促进亚洲地区商业法律的一体化，今年年初一个新的组织成立了。新加坡首席大法官Sundaresh Menon是组织重要的支持者，他向John Church讲述了该组织的前景。
越来越多的人认为我们现在正身处“亚洲世纪”。近年来各国提出了许多贸易和投资倡议，希望能将亚洲融合为一个更统一的整体。中国鼎力支持的亚洲基础设施投资银行和“一带一路”这两个雄心勃勃的经济项目也在为这一趋势的发展添加新的动力。
亚洲经济的日趋一体化无疑会为中国及该地区其他国家的经济发展注入更多的活力。但是文化、政治、信仰、种族和历史的多样化可能意味着在这个地区的各个市场间建立紧密的多国合作注定要遇到许多复杂的问题和困难。法律体系在亚洲的趋同难度只会更大。
在这种背景下，亚洲商业法律研究所（Asian Business Law Institute [ABLI]）在1月21日召开的一场新加坡法律学会会议中成立，其使命是“倡导、进行和促进研究并发表权威文献，为亚洲法律发展提供实务指导和促进亚洲商业法律的趋同”。
